Iran calls for Tehran-Pretoria direct flight

TEHRAN, Sep. 12 (MNA) – Chairman of Iran-South Africa Friendship Group called for removing obstacles to banking transactions and establishing a direct flight route between Tehran and Pretoria to expand bilateral economic sides.

Salman Khodadadi, Chairman of Iran-South Africa Friendship Group, made the remarks during his meeting with South African ambassador to Tehran Archie Whitehead and added, “there exist vast potentials for growth and development in different fields between Iran and South Africa which can be taken advantage of in line with the mutual benefit between the two nations.”

During the meeting, Khodadadi pointed to the increasing interactions between the countries in political, economic and cultural areas; “the recent trip of South African parliament’s speaker to Iran confirms the resolve and willingness of the two countries' parliaments to further expand bilateral relations," he added.

Khodadai also put emphasis on holding regular meetings and consultation sessions between parliament members and high ranking officials of the two countries on regional and international subjects.

The South African ambassador, for his part, expressed gratitude over Iran’s support and assistance during the apartheid and said, “the two nations of Iran and South Africa have similar missions which provides the grounds for further friendly interactions amongst one another.”

“Cooperation between developing countries can empower their presence in the international scene,” South African envoy stressed.
